Casa Sirena, Lot B-2
Casa Sirena
2 Calle Pitaya, Costa Cardonal
Jean Cockelreas & Ed Epifani
Jean and Ed live in their spacious, graceful house year-round.  It was designed by a noted "green"
architect in Salem, Oregon - Nathan Good (
www.nathangoodarchitect.com) - who displays the
house prominently in his online portfolio.  While it is likely to be the largest house at Costa
Cardonal, its design that integrates beauty and functionality makes it attractive from any
perspective.

Ed and Jean sold their dental practice and home in Salem, Oregon, packed up their two old dogs
and a few other essential items and moved to Costa Cardonal in October, 2006.  Their house was
"almost" completed, but lacked windows and doors, and all the furniture and appliances that they
had shipped separately.

About 24 hours after their arrival, a tropical storm grazed the Punta Chivato area, dumping rain
and causing localized flooding.  The road to Punta Chivato quickly washed out, and left Jean and
Ed stranded, with little food and water, and the shelter only of their "teardrop" camper.   Being
adventurous by nature, they prevailed with humor and goodwill. The local community banded
together to repair the road and look after each other.  Within 48 hours, Jean and Ed were
comfortable on their patio, enjoying the only lasting effects - the lovely  greening of the desert,
the new friends they had made, and their good fortune to have found such a wonderful place to
live.

Jean has spent many years in Mexico and her Spanish is excellent.  Jean and Ed both have a
manner that encourages trust and friendship among local Mexicans and expats alike.  Ed carves
wood for the joy of it, and Jean is studying weaving techniques with a local Mulege weaver.

Their plan is to make Costa Cardonal their permanent home for many years to come, taking trips
to other parts of Mexico and returning to the US for family events and occasional "official
appearances".
